Classes Explained...

MOMMY & ME

For littles with the ability to walk, 2-3 years old 

This mommy and me class is perfect for any grown up wanting to engage in creative ways to play, connect, and grow with their little ones. We will use movement, music, and stories to create an environment where adults and children can engage in:

-socialization

-bonding

-creative play 

-cognitive and physical development 

-imaginative storytelling 

-and dance in a low risk, enjoyable environment



BALLET & JAZZ

Our ballet & jazz combo classes will focus on ballet technique as well as jazz movement. The focus on each style will be determined by the class needs and the teachers preference.


HIP-HOP

This class will be high energy and a ton of fun! Hip-hop dance is a fusion dance genre that incorporates elements of popping, locking, breaking, jazz, ballet, tap and other styles and is typically performed to  hip hop, R&B, funk, electronic or pop music. As in all classes at Studio K - this hip-hop class will have appropriate and clean music as well as movements.  Hip hoppers wear tennis shoes to class. **Students will be moved between classes as their abilities warrant (at teachers and directors discretion).**
  • Hip Hop 1: 6 yrs and up, no experience required.
  • Hip Hop 2: 1-2+ years experience required, placement at directors & teachers discretion.
  • Hip Hop 3: 3+ years experience required, placement at directors & teachers discretion.

MODERN
Modern is a form of contemporary dance employing the use of the entire body in movements expressive of abstract ideas. Modern dancers expand the limitations of classical ballet and favor movements derived from the expression of their feelings and interpretation of the music. 

BALLET TECHNIQUE
This is a strict ballet class focusing on building strength, technical accuracy and the future of wearing pointe shoes. In most cases, dancers will need to attend this class year-round for 1-2 years before being considered for pointe shoes.

TAP

Classes are 45 minutes.  Tap shoes required. **Students will be moved between classes as their abilities warrant (at teachers and directors discretion).**
  • Tiny Tap ~ 4-5 yrs, no experience required.
  • Tap 1 ~ 6 yrs and up, no experience required.
  • Tap 2 ~ 2+ years experience, placement at directors & teachers discretion.
  • Tap 3 ~ 3+ years experience, placement at directors & teachers discretion.
  • Tap 4 ~ 4+ years experience, placement at directors & teachers discretion.

MUSICAL THEATER & CHARACTER MOVEMENT
ages 10+
Our musical theater dance class will blend various dance styles like jazz, ballet, character and contemporary, focusing on performance skills and storytelling through movement. This class is fun, energetic and is centered on performance quality and acting. Typically using music from Broadway musicals, movies, and various shows, this class will help dancers develop theatrical qualities in their dancing. Our goal is to develop confidence, stage presence, and the ability to interpret music and characters through dance. It will focus on translating emotion, portraying a character, and cultivating stage presence. Musical Theatre is a great class to expand a dancer’s self-confidence and performance skills.


TUMBLING
ages 5 and up
Tumbling is a skill, practice, or sport of executing gymnastic feats without the use of apparatus. Students learn strength, power, and agility through the repetition of skills. Everything learned in tumbling will help dancers improve in their other dance classes as well! Tumbling skills include (but are not limited to):
-Stretching
-Strengthening & conditioning
-Confidence
-Body coordination, awareness & control
-Headstand, Handstand
-Backbend & walkovers
-Rolls
-Bridges
-Handsprings
-Cartwheel
-Roundoff
-And much more!

Tumbling will benefit students who love to run, jump, and flip. It is a very high-energy class that focuses on stamina, muscle strength and flexibility. This is a great class for dancers and non-dancers alike.

KIDS YOGA
ages 4-10
Kids yoga is a class that will introduce basic body awareness as a way to provide a welcoming space for children to explore the physical world and their body's abilities. we will focus on:
-developing physical wellness, body awareness, flexibility, and body love
-developing emotional understanding and regulation
-learning to have a growth mindset
-building confidence
-engaging in creativity
-using teamwork and compassion
-recognizing mindfulness and basic meditation
