Classes Explained...

BALLET & JAZZ
Our ballet & jazz combo classes will focus on ballet technique as well as jazz movement. The focus on each style will be determined by the class needs and the teachers preference.

HIP-HOP
This class will be high energy and a ton of fun! Hip-hop dance is a fusion dance genre that incorporates elements of popping, locking, breaking, jazz, ballet, tap and other styles and is typically performed to  hip hop, R&B, funk, electronic or pop music. As in all classes at Studio K - this hip-hop class will have appropriate and clean music as well as movements.  Hip hoppers wear tennis shoes to class. **Students will be moved between classes as their abilities warrant (at teachers and directors discretion).**
  • Hip Hop 1: 6 yrs and up, no experience required.
  • Hip Hop 2: 1-2+ years experience required, placement at directors & teachers discretion.
  • Hip Hop 3: 3+ years experience required, placement at directors & teachers discretion.
LEAPS AND TURNS TECHNIQUE
This class is a great opportunity for dancers ages 8 and up.  Curriculum will focus on the leaps, jumps and turns that dancers perform in ballet, jazz, modern and hip hop.  This specialized class is a way to increase dance skills, flexibility, strength and gain abilities for your other dance classes.  No costume or recital performance for this class.

MODERN
Modern is a form of contemporary dance employing the use of the entire body in movements expressive of abstract ideas. Modern dancers expand the limitations of classical ballet and favor movements derived from the expression of their feelings and interpretation of the music. 

PRE-POINTE BALLET TECHNIQUE
This is a strict ballet class focusing on building strength, technical accuracy and the future of wearing pointe shoes. In most cases, dancers will need to attend this class year-round for 1-2 years before being considered for pointe shoes.

TAP
Classes are 45 minutes.  Tap shoes required. **Students will be moved between classes as their abilities warrant (at teachers and directors discretion).**
  • Tiny Tap ~ 4-5 yrs, no experience required.
  • Tap 1 ~ 6 yrs and up, no experience required.
  • Tap 2 ~ 2+ years experience required, placement at directors & teachers discretion.
  • Tap 3 ~ 3+ years experience required, placement at directors & teachers discretion.
  • Tap 4 ~ 4+ years experience required, placement at directors & teachers discretion.

TUMBLING (ages 5 and up)
Tumbling is a skill, practice, or sport of executing gymnastic feats without the use of apparatus. Students learn strength, power, and agility through the repetition of skills. Everything learned in tumbling will help dancers improve in their other dance classes as well! Tumbling skills include (but are not limited to):
-Stretching
-Strengthening & conditioning
-Confidence
-Body coordination, awareness & control
-Headstand, Handstand
-Backbend & walkovers
-Rolls
-Bridges
-Handsprings
-Cartwheel
-Roundoff
-And much more!

Tumbling will benefit students who love to run, jump, and flip. It is a very high-energy class that focuses on stamina, muscle strength and flexibility. This is a great class for dancers and non-dancers alike.

STRETCHING & STRENGTH
This class will focus on stretching and building strength for dancers, tumblers, gymnasts, athletes and anyone looking to improve their body awareness, flexibility and overall health. This class is open to all kids AND adults.
